Guys. I've started this post about four different times because my brain is moving in a million directions and I'm feeling super indecisive about how to actually begin this SOAP study intro post. Therefore, I'll let you choose your own adventure (ha!) from the following opening paragraph options:
Option 1: I HAD A BABY AND MY LIFE IS SO DIFFERENT AND AMAZING AND HE'S THE BEST AND I LOVE HIM. (All caps are clearly necessary.)
Option 2: It finally feels like fall! At the first hint of cooler weather, I pulled out my leggings and boots faster than Usain Bolt in the 100m dash, drove myself to Starbucks for a PSL, and made these pumpkin oat pancakes. (My all-time fav!) I'm so basic. SORRY NOT SORRY.
Option 3: We're backkkkkk! Doesn't it feel like forever since we've done a SOAP study together? I've been working on this one for quite awhile but between being pregnant in the dead of summer and working on ALL THE THINGS to prepare for maternity leave and then giving birth to a perfect little human (the most painful/best/weirdest experience of my life), I was a little preoccupied. But the good news is I'm no longer pregnant, my feet are no longer swollen (praise da Lord!), I can wear regular clothes again (whooooo!), AND I've learned to type SOAP entries while holding a baby -- so it's time to SOAP together again!
Let's do it.
We'll be studying 1 John, a small little book written by the apostle John, and I can't wait to share it with you. To be honest, this summer was a tough one for the soul. Between terrorist attacks and police shootings and racial tensions, I felt like so many mornings I woke up, discouraged and deeply sad about what was happening in our world. I felt like my prayers weren't deep enough to heal a world so ravaged by violence. I felt like I needed some hope, like I needed to find solid ground in a chaotic, ever-changing world. I needed a message about love.
That's where 1 John comes in. This little book packs an incredible amount of wisdom and hope. It's all about love and light and the One who is love and light in the first place. It helped me remember that the darkness -- no matter how much of it there is in our world or our own lives -- is no match for the light. Our sin has no stronghold over our Savior.
So, over the next two weeks, let's read 1 John together. We'll find hope and redefine love and challenge ourselves to let our light shine into the lives of others.
I hope you'll join me -- and invite someone to join us, too! Here are the details:
