Scripture: Proverbs 7 (focus on v. 4)
Observation: The writer encourages us to embrace wisdom and insight, two things that keep us from going down the wrong path.
Application: My sister and I were always close growing up. Sure, there was the occasional hair pulling (her), leg biting (her), and pushing (me), but normally, we got along well. Even after we got separate bedrooms, we’d often sneak over to the other person’s room so we could be together. We’d sleep together in a single bed, fighting over who got the “safe side,” the side of the bed up against the wall. Our reasoning? If someone broke in during the middle of the night, whoever was on the outside would be taken first. So on second thought, maybe we didn’t get along that well…
But at the end of the day, I’d do anything for my sister and she’d do anything for me. So when the writer of Proverbs says to love wisdom “like a sister,” I understand that binding, strong commitment.
“Love wisdom like a sister; make insight a beloved member of your family. Let them protect you…” (v.4-5)
Imagine chasing after wisdom and insight the way you’d chase after someone you love fiercely, like a sibling, a parent, a best friend. You’d pursue them with intensity and focus, fueled by unfailing devotion and love.
Do you chase wisdom and insight the same way? Are you so thirsty to become more like Jesus that you beg God for direction, listen closely, and follow his leading?
Today, let’s run towards the very best God has for us.
Prayer: God, I have so many areas of my life where I need your direction and wisdom. I pray for a heart that trusts, ears that listen, and a life that obeys your leading. Amen.
